The Saginaw Township Police Department continues to look for ways to better serve our citizens. As a smaller department, it is difficult at times to devote manpower to specific programs aimed at small segments of the population, whether that population is residential or commercial.

We have had a community policing program in operation in an area of Saginaw Township for several years. Though that program was very successful, it was limited to a small segment of our population. In looking for ways to increase specially assigned officers time and effectiveness, we have developed a Crime Prevention Officer Program.

The CPO program has become recognized for its excellence in the services provided to the citizens and businesses of Saginaw Township. In 2009 it was award the ...

This program builds on the idea of community policing but on a larger scale. In our case, we have assigned an officer to each of our three districts. These officers are responsible for dealing with neighborhood issues, Crime Free Multi Housing issues, school issues, and in some cases commercial issues.

The officers will be responsible for filling in the vacancy caused by the elimination of the D.A.R.E. program in the schools. The new program will cover several grades and will cover many more issues than drug and alcohol use and abuse. We are hoping this new school program will be more effective in assisting students in making the proper choices as they grow toward adulthood.

As time goes on, we will be making adjustments to this program to make it the best possible for our citizens.
