PATROL SERGEANTS

The Saginaw Township Police Department road patrol division has five Sergeants assigned. Among their many responsibilities, the Sergeants are responsible for supervising the activities of road patrol officers, reviewing reports, arranging civil stand-bys or citizens, and conducting roll call briefings for the shifts.

Administrative Sergeant

Sergeant Blake Andrews

Sergeant Andrews handles daily administrative duties, and is the coordinator of the Field Training Unit and is the coordinator for the Citizens Police Academy. He also supervises the property division and is responsible for coordinating vehicle fleet maintenance and equipment requisitions

Sgt. Andrews is the STPD historian and is responsible for developing the first STPD website and that has grown to what we currently have. He currently serves on the website advisory committee and helps to maintain the site in addition to his normal responsibilities.

Sergeant Andrews has been with the department for years. He has served as a road patrol officers, a detective assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit, and a Field training Officer. He was awarded the Saginaw Exchange Club "Officer of the Year" award in 1996.

Patrol Sergeants

Sergeant John Pelkki

Sgt. PelkkiSergeant John Pelkki supervises road patrol officers from 0545 to 1345. After serving as a Sergeant in the US Army MP Corp, Sgt. Pelkki joined the Saginaw Township Police Department 1987.

Sgt. Pelkki's past experience with the department includes serving 12 years on the Emergency Services Team, a road patrol officer and detective and juvenile detective. He has also served as president of STPOA.

Currently Sgt. Pelkki is the coordinator for the Saginaw Township Police Crossing guard program. He is a founding member of the Critical Incident Debriefing Team and a Field Training Sergeant as well as a Sergeant with the STPD honor guard.

Sgt. Pelkki also supervises the Saginaw Township Police Motorcycle and Traffic units. serves a a Deputy Medical Examiner Scene Investigator for the Saginaw County Medical examiners office.

Sgt. Pelkki has attended numerous leadership in service training and most recently earned a certificate in Leadership Potential Development from the Academy of Leadership Associates in conjunction with the FBI. He also has received training from the Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Institute and the Michigan Police Executive Development Seminar. He also holds a bachelors degree Saginaw Valley State University where he was a member of the 1979 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship football team.

Sergeant John Sadowski

Sergeant Sadwoski began his career with the Saginaw Police Department in 1990. He joined the Saginaw Township Police Department in 1993 and was promoted to Sergeant in April of 2002.

Sgt. Sadowski supervises road patrol officers from 2145 to 0545. He serves as a field training unit supervisor and was one of the original authors of the field training manual that all officers employed by STPD use as a guide in their training process.

Sgt. Sadowski is responsible for overseeing the STPD bike unit and serves as a self-described "Jack of all trades." He handles MICR audits for the department that helps to ensure that our reports meet standards for reporting to the State of Michigan. That in turn helps STPD to secure grants monies for various law enforcment acticivties such as patrol related and traffic enforcement programs.

Sgt. Sadowski is a LEIN TAC, is IPMBA certified (bike patrol), and a class III breathalyzer operator. Each month he certifies that our preliminary breath tests are calibrated to meet specific standards for court purposes.

Sergeant Sadowski is active in the Fraternal Order of Police where he currently is the Secretary for the FOP State Lodge of Michigan. He also helps the local Chapter #105 host an annual "Pass the Bucket" fundraiser for Special Olympics. The event is co-sponsored by the Saginaw Spirit Hockey organization. Sgt Sadowski img

BA in Criminal Justice from Saginaw Valley State University. In addition he is a graduate of the Michigan Police Executive Development Seminar. Sergeant Sadowski has attended several leadership workshop certificates including the Gordon Graham leadership seminar.

In 2002, Sergeant Sadowski represented our department Olympics as a law enforcement officer in Salt Lake City.

Sergeant William Masica

Sergeant Masica is a swing shift Sergeant. He supervises officers on all shifts during various days of the week.

Sgt. Masica started with the Saginaw Township Police Department in 1990. Sgt. Mascia conducts roll callHe worked as a road patrol officer and was then promoted to the position of Sergeant in In 2001.

In addition to supervising patrol officers he also coordinates various internal programs and scheduling for overtime coverage at Fashion Square Mall.

Sgt. Masica is a member of the multi-jurisdiction Saginaw County Accident Reconstruction team and also serves as a deputy medical examiner scene investigator.

Sergeant Masica was names the Saginaw County exchange Club "Officer of the Year" in 1998.

Sergeant Rick Herren

Sergeant Malace supervises officers from 1445 to 2145. He was promoted to the position of Sergeant in 2011.

Sgt. Herren is one of STPD In-Service training coordinators and serves as an FTO Supervisor. He is responsible for training department personnel in the areas of PPCT, firearms, and Taser.

Sergeant Herren is a member of the Emergency Services Team and has received numerous department awards.
